October was a big month.
It was a little chaotic, between house guests, a funeral out of town, and Chad’s formidable professional engineering exam (thank goodness that’s over!). We’ve been running around and also seemingly in-place. I know that with Halloween, meetings, and a quick trip to Nashville right around the corner, things are only going to continue at their hectic speed.
In my free time, I read, played guitar, cleaned, and set many personal records for home projects and DIY art with insane turn-around times. It feels like a blur and like I was running a marathon at a sprint, but it was still fun. I got a lot out of October, even if it was a whirlwind.
Moving forward, I hope for some focus, a little peace, and a lot of fun. I don’t want to slow down, but I want my spirit to catch up.
And with that, here are my top picks for the month of October.
Monthly Favorites
Treat Yo’ Self: Hair Cut

One of the major highlights of October was heading to a salon and getting a haircut, my first since February. It felt gooood. And safe, too. I highly recommend Grand Avenue Hair Designs in Glenwood Springs.
Friends Weekend

We were beyond blessed to host our best friends Alexis and Jessica, (along with Cali!) for a belated birthday celebration. We also got to see several of Jessica’s family members, which is always so fun. There was hot springs, hiking, pizza, and great company. It went by too fast!
Beer: Tivoli Brewery

Chad and I were able to slip away for a few minutes between a funeral family functions, and hit up the Tivoli Brewery for a very quick drink. My old stomping grounds looked as amazing as ever, and the brews tasted just as good.
Around the House Projects

Not to toot my own horn too loudly, but I was kind of a force this month. I tackled several projects around the house, including a dresser restoration, office re-organization, putting together a new cabinet, hanging shelves, and DIY Halloween decorations.
Relief: Test is Over

Shout out to Chad, who took his Professional Engineering test last week! (And my parents, who were nice enough to host us!) I know he’s relieved to be done, and I’m so proud of him.
Wally Groomed

Wally had his second grooming appointment at Casa De Pets, in Grand Junction. He was transformed into a giant floof ball. He’s so fluffy, soft, and adorable. 🙂
Fall Nail Polish

I got a new fall hair color that I’m loving: Opi’s Berlin There Done That. It’s a moody and neutral purple-brown.
I got it from Target, available here.
New Hobby: Guitar

A huuuuge shout out to my neighbor Steve, who has leant me an acoustic guitar. I’m learning! Thanks to the app Yousician, it’s not too hard. My goal is three times a week, at least. This has been nearly a life-long dream, so it feels pretty neat to get into it.
Civic Duty: Voting!

Voting is fun! And maybe a little stressful when there’s so much at stake. I voted this month (by filling out my mailed ballot and dropping it off directly at a secure ballot box in my county) and hope you do too.
Costume: Post Office Workers

Since this is coming out prior to Halloween, I’ll spill the beans on my surprise costume. Chad and I are dressing up as USPS workers (backing our boys in blue! ;)). A post with more details will follow.
On the Screen

- Scandal
- The Bachelorette
- The Good Place
- Mystery Road
- Borat
- Wall-E
- The Bridges of Madison County
- Chicago
- Five Feet Apart
Worst Day: Snow Day

It snowed a few days ago, which shouldn’t feel like that much of a shock in Colorado, but it always is. It was particularly un-fun due to interstate shut downs and many accidents on the icy roads. However, two good things: 1, the moisture that Colorado desperately needs. And 2, I felt overwhelmingly excited for snowboarding season in the distance.
Wally is Huge

Just to let you know, Wally is suddenly huge! I love this photo of him with my mom.
