When it comes to Milwaukee culture, Potawatomi Casino is synonymous with a good time. For our first visit to the casino, Chad and I opted to turn our trip into an overnight stay, complete with city skyline views, a delicious meal, and a little gambling (of course)—resulting in an elevated, romantic staycation at the Potawatomi Casino Hotel.
Here’s how it went.
Thank you to Potawatomi for hosting us and giving us a wonderful introduction to the hotel and casino, and what a fun night out can look like in Milwaukee.
Potawatomi Casino Hotel: the vibe

First impressions: Potawatomi Casino Hotel is, in itself, a vibe. It’s elevated and grand, obvious by the first steps into a gorgeously designed lobby.
From the first elevator ride (quick and personalized to your key card, to ensure that only hotel guests are getting on and off), I was impressed by the modern amenities of Potawatomi. Our room, too, set the stage for a romantic staycation: comfortable beds, a sleek and clean design, incredible bathroom lighting (it was SO nice to get ready in here), a personalized in-room tablet, and a large windows that framed an incredible view of Milwaukee.
From our window, we saw several of my favorite views: the Hoan and the Historic Third Ward in one direction; downtown Milwaukee and its skyline in another. This was such a highlight to me—getting to see a new vantage point of my favorite city, incredible both during the day and lit up at night.
Choose your own adventure

One of my favorite aspects of our night at Potawatomi was learning that the property offers a customized and tailored experience, depending on what you’re looking for.
It’s a choose your own adventure. If you’re looking for a reason to dress up, that’s exactly the vibe. If you’re looking for more a more casual experience, Potawatomi offers that, too. The casino is appointed with every type of customer, energy, and and affordability (it’s free to enter, free to park, free to explore)—everyone is welcome to craft their own kind of fun (live music, delicious food, drinks, or gambling).
Chad and I opted to dress up and embrace an upscale energy of the night, and we never felt out of place. Even better, we were able to pack in a lot of fun—wining and dining, dancing, playing slot machines, cuddling up for a movie—all without having to leave the building.
Dinner at RuYi

Every romantic staycation needs a standout dinner, and RuYi, Potawatomi’s modern Asian restaurant, delivers.
We were so impressed by RuYi—from our first step inside, the service was outstanding, to match a sleek, cool, and inviting interior. Beyond a charming and intimate atmosphere, the meal was the obvious star of the show.
RuYi has an extensive menu of Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Thai dishes, which made it hard to choose. So, we ordered a little bit of everything: delicious and creative cocktails (I got the Lychee Daquiri, Chad the I Am Pine), spicy edamame, fresh spring rolls, a crunchy dragon sushi roll, garlic noodles, and Szechuan chicken. We also enjoyed a delicious Red Lantern dessert, complete with vanilla schuss mousse, strawberry jelly, strawberry cream, vanilla sponge, red glaze, served with a refreshing coconut ice cream.
Every bite was utterly delicious. We left RuYi feeling happy, full, satisfied, and delighted at our discovery of a new-to-us restaurant—a fast favorite.
Saturday night at Potawatomi Casino

After dinner, our evening shifted back into the casino scene, where we got to experience more of what Potawatomi had to offer.
We had a lot of fun. There was so much to see and do, and our senses were on overdrive, taking in the sights and sounds from slot machines, table games, several bars, and live music. The energy of the floor is palpable!
For those who enjoy sports, the sportsbook lounge offers a more relaxed space to sit, watch a game, and enjoy a drink together before heading back upstairs.
Chad and I opted to stick to penny slots (available to play on several floors), and had a blast playing on the old school machines. We enjoyed a few cocktails, which were delicious. It’s worth noting that there are a ton of dining options available in the casino in addition to RuYi (and through hotel room service), including:
- Dream Dance Steakhouse for a classic, upscale steakhouse experience
- Rock & Brews for a more casual, lively dinner
- Canal Street Café for a relaxed breakfast or brunch the next morning
- Cream City Coffee Co. for a slow start to the day with coffee and pastries
- Potawatomi Marketplace for quick, casual bites
Overall, we felt like the casino was expansive and diverse, with plenty of fun to take in.
