Well, we did it: Chad and I bought a house!
Though it was a bit of a headache getting here (lol, a lot of things have gone wrong for us lately), we couldn’t be more excited for the purchase of our historic Victorian home in Milwaukee.
We’re located in the Brewer’s Hill neighborhood and have fallen in love with this corner of the city, so close to the river, downtown, the interstate, breweries, coffee shops, my gym, and so many local gems.
Chad and I have a unique situation, where we’re still renting an apartment just a few blocks away. For the time being, we’re able to slowly move in and do any small projects before we’re living there fully. It’s nice to have the space and time to do things thoughtfully, though it’s a little hard to be proactive as a master procrastinator. 😉
Here’s a tour of our new (and empty) house…welcome!
Upstairs
Bedroom
Our bedroom is small but cool! I’m a huge fan of the wall of windows, an en suite bathroom (a must for those of us who have to put in/take out contacts every day), super cute built-in closets (even if one would never be able to hold all my stuff, lol), and the super cool bonus loft space! Ahh!!
We ordered a king-sized bed (which was actually stolen from our front porch, lol), and I’m excited to sleep in spacious luxury.
There’s so much potential in here, and I’m excited to see what we come up with…especially with that cool loft space. First step: painting!

Guest bedrooms/bath
Upstairs we have two other bedrooms and another full bathroom. I hope to make one of the bedrooms a designated guest space. I’m not at all sure how the décor is going to go, but I hope I can create a really dreamy getaway.
The other room will likely be where we set up Wally’s cage and Chad’s PC computer. We will also have the air mattress available in there for any extra guests, should we ever need it.
Another thing I love is the hallway. It’s old and skinny and windowed. I just love that it reminds me of the history and character of the house.

Downstairs
Our downstairs has quite a few things going on! Including:
- A dining room
- A foyer
- A mudroom
- A half-bath
- A kitchen
- A living room
- Many entrances

And if you keep going farther down, there’s a basement.
While painting is on our initial list, updating the kitchen is down the road; we decided to wait a little while—live in the space, save up a little more, and maybe hire a designer to do the heavy lifting for us.
In the basement, we have the bones for a great entertaining space. I think it’d be cool to turn it into a really fun hangout space or movie theater area, but we’ll see!
I’m most excited about having wooden floors (a really huge change from our Colorado home) and what I hope to be an upscale living room. We’ve already bought a couch, chairs, and TV, so it’ll be fun to figure out what comes next.
More to come
As we slowly move in and the painters get to work, things will be changing! I’m beyond excited to play with this space and put our mark on it. We’re ready to call it home at last.
How exciting–there’s so much potential!
And holy colors Batman!!
