Let’s be real: I’m tardy for this post. I know it, you know, we know it.
Summer is in full swing: the sun is shining, festivals are booming, and the beaches in and around Milwaukee are calling.
I’m late. And that’s okay! There’s still time for me to claim my summertime goals and make them happen. Are you with me?
First, let’s review my previously posted spring goals before diving into my latest vision for (the remainder of) summer 2023.
Happy summer, y’all.
Review of spring goals
- Stick with fitness
- Accomplished! While I did not continue with the next Fit by Katy challenge (booo!), I did keep going to Barre Code classes. In May, Chad and I started playing pickleball. I think I’m as active as ever!
- Map out summer plans
- Mostly! Our calendar is full of festivals and concerts and designated beach days. I could’ve been a little more in-depth, but this was a great starting point.
- Bust my ass
- Accomplished! I think I’ve been doing a good job at taking care of business and taking care of myself. Between going to the doctor, OBGYN, dentist, and therapy (important and necessary self-care!) I’ve also been working hard to produce quality content for my clients.
In the spring specifically, I killed it! I hustled with magazine writing deadlines and two new clients at work. It was stressful, but I made it out on top.
- Accomplished! I think I’ve been doing a good job at taking care of business and taking care of myself. Between going to the doctor, OBGYN, dentist, and therapy (important and necessary self-care!) I’ve also been working hard to produce quality content for my clients.
- Make the most of weekends
- Accomplished! Done and done and done. I’m really proud to say that Chad and I have been living a very full and busy life, and making sure to use our weekends wisely. Most weekends in spring and summer so far have included elements of fun, exploration, productivity, or relaxation. There haven’t been any “wastes.”
- Read more books
- Accomplished! I’ve been a reading machine! I’ve loved using my Kindle, especially sinking into a book while traveling. So many book bangers lately. I think I’m up to 30 books so far in 2023, which surpassed my initial goal of 23. 🙂

New (mid-) summer goals
Get in those beach days
Let’s be real: summer doesn’t last forever! It’ll be gone before I now it, and I don’t want to squander the remaining sunshine with regret. I need to get my ass to the beach, as soon as (and as often as) possible.
Travel somewhere new
I would like to go to at least one new place this summer. I’m thinking somewhere in Wisconsin, so that I can better get to know the state. Fingers crossed for a day trip!
Work outside
A few weeks ago I purchased outdoor lounge chairs, and they’re perfect to set up in the yard for some extra sunshine. I’ve set up shop in the backyard a few times (though it’s been a while), and I want to make sure and do it more. I really want to soak up the rays and fresh air while I can.
Keep moving the body
As for fitness, I have pretty specific goals. I want to play pickleball at least three times a week and prepare for a tournament that we’ve signed up for in fall. Second, I want to make the most out of my Barre Code membership and show up in the studio at least twice a week.
Be budget-conscious
In May, Chad and I decided that we wanted to focus on consuming less—reducing Amazon purchases, for example, unless it was a need rather than a want.
Now, the focus is on cutting back on our spendiest area: eating and drinking out. We want to reserve our dining experiences more for the weekend, and being choosy about doing so out of pleasure, not convenience. It’s both in consideration of our budget, but also of making sure we are eating healthier at home and reducing grocery food waste. We’ve had an okay start, but we want to really commit through summer.
Wish us luck for our pursuit of our latest seasonal goals!
Wisconsin is beautiful this time of the year! I think the two of you could have a ton of fun! Congrats on goals completed to date and look forward to reading of the completed summer goals!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
