Sometimes, I can be pretty basic. I lean into it, because there’s nothing wrong with liking what everybody else likes.
There’s no shame here—I love a good pumpkin spice latte, a comfy Ugg boot, and taking shots of my food for the gram. You know what else I love, that’s as basic as can be? Target.

And that’s okay. From what I’ve seen, I’m just one of millions who appreciate the (pretty) affordable prices and the aesthetics of their home collections. I always love seeing what other people bring home and purchase for themselves, and am more inspired by these reviews than any kind of store ad.
Here’s a round-up of my recent Tar-jey purchases (thank youuuu, Christmas gift cards!!), in case you’re interested.
Sunshine mugs

After searching high and low for high-capacity ceramic stoneware mugs, I was surprised to find the best option at Target (I expected to fall in love with some on Etsy or West Elm or Pottery Barn, but I couldn’t find what I needed from the more expensive retailers). Not only are these affordable at $5 a cup, but these mugs are so beautiful, sturdy, and hold 16 ounces. They are exactly what I’ve been looking for, and they happen to be incredibly on-brand for me.

Glass and leather vase

This small-ish vase was recommended by an influencer on Instagram, and has been a lovely addition to our tablescape. I keep mine full of dried pampas grass, which I found on Amazon. I love the leather detail that gives it a boho vibe.

Measuring cups

I was exactly 25 years, 10 months, and one week old when I discovered the necessity of durable measuring cups. I was using our plastic one-cup tool to measure waffle mix when suddenly, there was a snap, a broken handle, and a splatter of batter all over me, the counter, and Wally’s fortunate snout.
Needless to say, these metal measuring cups have been a pleasant, sturdy replacement and savior of surfaces from gooey messes.

Cropped sweatshirt

For whatever reason, I approach crop tops with hesitation. There’s something about paying full price for an article of clothing that is made of half the fabric that stings, I guess. However, the current mass appeal of cropped sweatshirts—they tend to be cute, trendy, and the perfect compliment to a work-from-home outfit—finally sucked me in.
I love this #TargetStyle hoodie, from the color to the light-weight coziness to the way it makes me feel stylish and like I have my life together, when I really probably don’t. I highly recommend one of these, paired with your nicest pair of sweatpants. Note: I loved it so much I went back for more, and got a black one too.

Kitchen towels

It was time for a little kitchen refresh! One small way to mix things up is with linens. I went with some cute white-and-grey tea towels, which are both cute and ultra functional for hand and dish-drying.

Gallery frames

I gasped when I shredded through the many layers of bubble wrap, revealing these gorgeous matted frames. Literally, gasped. I am so in love with these frames, which are sophisticated and sleek and a major upgrade for me. They look entirely more expensive than they are, and they create such a statement on the wall. I’m in love.

Waffle bedding

I’m a really big fan of this white, textured bedding. It’s soft and comfortable and warm. I think it makes our bed look super fresh, and I was able to move our other duvet cover into the guest bedroom, which is a nice little upgrade for our pending visitors.

Pillows

When stuffing falls out of the side of your pillow, you know it’s time to get a new one. Chad and I are notoriously bad at this; it’s almost as if we believe that pillows cost a hundred dollars and we need to run them into the ground over many years to get our money’s worth.
This is false. They’re like $10 at Target. If you’re like us, hanging onto your grubby pillows until the last thread breaks, do yourself a favor and cave. Give in. Buy the damn pillow. Life is too short to have anything less than an extra firm spot to rest your head.

Basket
Though I’ve been a fan of wicker and rattan baskets for quite some time, it’s been from afar. They tend to be really expensive and one of the bottom things on my priority list. I got around to changing that, finally, with a small basket that now homes my faux fig plant. It’s a classy-looking upgrade!

Folding stools

We decided to remove Wally’s giant dog cage from our living room area, moving it to a more functional spot, and this freed up some precious real estate. After looking for some affordable extra seating options, I stumbled upon some backless director’s chair-style stools from Target, and they’re perfect. They’re gorgeous and I think they pull the room together even more.

Matching frames

In addition to our gallery frames in the hallway, I also added some gorgeous Target matted frames to our office space. I got two matching frames and filled them with some photos I took while traveling to Spokane, Washington and Washington, D.C., back when I could travel. This little corner feels very chic and put together.

Be basic
I hereby give you permission to be basic! (If you were looking for it, of course.) Please share with me and let me know what you’re loving at Target these days.
HA! You never realize how many things you need until you walk int he door…but you had a great haul, and the prices are always good!
So true! I am always plagued by the affordable prices, then a little shocked by the totals! Haha!
