Good as gold, baby. ✨ I’m now 29 years old on March 29—my golden birthday.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had such a fascination with golden birthdays. There was something so alluring about a special day somehow being even *more* special. Not to mention, mine always seemed too far away to even conceptualize. Try thinking about what 29 means or looks like as a child, lol. Inconceivable. Maybe even magic.
When I was 4 or 5, I promised my parents that I would never, ever leave them or live anywhere else—I said I’d buy a Winnebego camper so I could live in their driveway forever. I’m pretty sure I had this idea because I imagined us having the ultimate glittery-gold party of our dreams to celebrate me turning 29.
To make things even more interesting, my brain always clocks the numbers 3, 2, and 9 together in the wild—on microwaves and watches and scoreboards and timers and tickers. I’m not sure if it’s been manifestation or accidental numerology, but the signs have always pointed to this day. (At least, the ones I’ve chosen to notice.)
I know most people emphasize birthdays like 16 to drive or 21 to drink or 30 as a new season of life. But this is my landmark birthday.
Whatever the exact origin, 29 is all I’ve ever dreamt of.
It’s here, dipped in sunshine, as if made for me. I’m soaking in every moment. This is my day. This is my radiant, I belong in the world / I can’t believe this is my good, good life / I deserve good things / here I am / nothing gets better than this, day.
