Colorado is a great place to be as a beer drinker. From Denver to Grand Junction and beyond, there are so many breweries.
Durango, a small and vibrant town in the southwest corner of the state, is known for their western history, railroad, picturesque downtown, college, ski resort, incredible hiking and biking, hot springs, and a river that runs through. They seem to do everything well—including their craft beer scene—with plenty of charm, hospitality, and good vibes.
Here are some breweries to check out if you’re lucky enough to explore Durango. Each option serves both original brews and has a food menu for delicious dining options.
Ska Brewing

Ska Brewing is my personal favorite. The environment and aesthetic are fun and spacious, and while they serve food, the beer at Ska is too good to not be the main event. It’s really, really good.
I tried two different brews: the Rue B Soho and the Pink Vapor Stew. Chad also enjoyed a Pinstripe Red Ale and the Rue B Soho as well. We loved our experience so much that we ordered Ska on tap at local restaurants and picked up a 12 pack of canned Ska on the way out of town.

Animas Brewing

Located just a block off main street, Animas Brewing is a nicely sized brewery that has refreshing drinks and delicious food items. We enjoyed their creative in-dining screens, a garage door that folded up and let in some sunshine, and a great patio for patrons and their pups. For us, their ambiance and vibe were our favorite part.
They have several IPAs on tap, and some rotating guest options. I ordered a Riverside Kolsch and Chad got their Boxcar Red.

Carver Brewing

Carver’s is a bustling and comfortable spot on Main Street that offers great service, a food menu, and great beer. They are a classic brew pub, catering first to families and hungry patrons, and secondary to folks wanting a drink. Their beer menu offers a mix of in-house options as well as a few guests on tap. They’re a fun and feel-good stop.
During our visit, we decided to go with both drinks and food. I opted for a Raspberry Wheat Ale, while Chad ordered a Litner Creek Lager. Both were refreshing options that paired well with our burger and salad entrees.

Steamworks Brewing Company

Steamworks is likely the most popular brewery and restaurant combo in Durango—on a Saturday night during the off-season, it was a 2-hour wait to get a seat for a drink. Get on their digital waitlist ASAP!
Their busyness speaks for itself: they have the goods. Their food menu is packed full of delicious items, there’s a fun and vibrant atmosphere, and the beer is classic. They have classic brews like the Lizard Head Red and Steam Engine Lager, and their adult mac n’ cheese is a must.
