Hey there all you cool cats and kittens (side note: remember that stage of quarantine?), I hope all is well. It’s been a while since I’ve talked about anything beauty related (maybe it’s because it’s been a while since I’ve done anything remotely beautifying?), so I wanted to dip my toes back into that category.
So, let’s get right into it. Here are some of my go-to beauty items that are a staple in my (rare) beauty routine.
Product Faves

Foundation
A few months ago, I decided to branch out with a new foundation, so I went with the 24-hour matte version of Born This Way. I don’t wear it all that often, but when I do it’s great; it’s light while also providing solid coverage, and also is pretty mattifying without drying out my skin.
It was a little on the pricy side, but this foundation has lasted quite some time and has proved to be investment worthy.
Note: Prior to putting this on, I typically apply a moisturizer, SPF, and primer. I use a brush to apply.
What I use: Too Faced Born This Way Foundation
Eye liner
I don’t know whether I’m loyal or just too lazy to look elsewhere, but ever since I’ve tried Tattoo Liner by KDV, I haven’t used anything else. It’s consistent, wears well, and lasts quite a long time for me (especially as someone who no longer wears makeup every day) (thanks, COVID).
What I use: KVD Vegan Beauty, Tattoo Eyeliner
Nail polish
I’ve always been an at-home manicure kinda gal, so there hasn’t been much of an interruption in this once-a-month or so beauty routine.
Lately, I’ve been really feeling darker and more neutral hues, like gray-ish purples. My recent polishes have been more gel-like and stay on for a good chunk of time.
What I use:
Daily moisturizer
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been an oily-faced mess. My forehead is a hot spot especially. Luckily for me, I learned a while ago that sometimes our skin over-produces oil because it’s actually under-hydrated.
Moisturizer, then, is key to my beauty routine. I recently tried a new brand after my old tub of Ives cream ran out (and, according to Amazon reviews, completely changed the formula for the worse). So far, Cera Ve is pretty good, though I worry if this formula is quite for me.
I’m considering switching to The Ordinary brand next time for my products, since they’re simple, straight forward, and very affordable.
What I use: Cetaphil Face Moisturizer, Daily Oil-Free Hydrating Face Lotion with Hyaluronic Acid
Night cream
Speaking of staying moisturized, I purchased a night cream a few months ago to help aid in overnight recovery. I put a nice slab on after washing my face and applying zit cream where applicable, and that’s that.
What I use: CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream
Eyeshadow tube
In my case, laziness is the name of the game (and it’s the only game I want to play). I reach for whatever is easiest, unless there’s a special occasion where it’s fun to bust out my big, eclectic makeup bag.
For eyeshadow especially, I’ve been keeping it simple. I use a liquid eyeshadow tube from Urban Decay. One light layer and I’m good to go, baby.
What I use: Urban Decay – Liquid Moondust Cream Eyeshadow – Solstice
What about you?
What are your favorites and the staples in your beauty of self-care routine?
Thank you for such a fab post, I couldn’t live without a serum or a multi purpose oil! Love Amy at amymarshment.com xx
Those are always an important piece of a healthy skin routine! Thank you so much for reading and sharing. xx
It is always great when you branch out to try new products. Glad you enjoy Born This Way! I keep hearing great things about The Ordinary. Definitely need to give it a try. I loved using Cetaphil’s face wash – great for keep your skin balanced. I am currently on a Shiseido skincare routine. Though, I need to do a better job than just putting on moisturizer!

I’ve tried The Ordinary since writing this post and I have to say I really like it! I’d love to explore Shiseido and keep learning about other skincare systems and options. Thank you for reading and sharing!
Omg you just took me back with the Tiger King reference 😂 I remember me and my boyfriend binged the entire series in one day while we waited to go to the grocery store at 10pm when no one else would be there. Anyways! I’m an at home manicure girl too. I found this amazing product on Amazon. If you’re like me, your nail polish is chipping by the 3rd day. This LED light and polish prevents that from happening for WEEKS.
Isn’t that crazy to think about?! I remember what a wonderful distraction it was (especially the memes that came with it) when everything was SO scary and stressful. Lol, it was what the world needed. And I’ll have to check that out, thank you!
Ooooh I’ve heard tons about that eyeliner from Kate Von D, but never tried! Glad to know your opinion.
