This time of year can be a lot of the same. Improvement here, resolution there. Insightful phrase here, guiding principle there. And while I’m definitely adding to the conversation with this list of winter goals for 2024, I hope it’s obvious that I don’t buy into the new year, new me trope.
Same me, same you, and we’re all better for it.
In being myself, however—which definitely includes a desire to grow and evolve and accomplish everything I set my hungry eyes on—goals are a regular part of that process. I’ve also found that setting these goals also help to curb my seasonal depression, which is known to run rampant this time of year (hello, grey skies and cold temps and an eerie quiet I Cannot Stand, how are ya?).
And because I’ve got side quests on my mind (24 for 2024, of course), many of these goals are going to be shaped around supporting those fun ideas. Low-pressure, silly-goofy, no-stress goals. Who’s with me?
As always, I’ll first review my previously posted fall goals before diving into my latest vision for winter 2024. Happy winter, y’all. We’ve got this.
Review of fall goals
- Bounce back
- Accomplished! Yes, I think I did. The last bits of fall were still busy, but I was able to feel like I could do the things I needed to, finally. I’m proud of the balance I kept between home, work, friends, and beyond.
- Accomplished! My reading goal for the year was 23 books (you know…23 for 2023). I ended the season at 53 books read! So proud of this one.
- Move my body
- Accomplished! Hell yes I did! I finished the season on a strong note. Not only did I jump back into barre classes, but I also started playing in a wiffle ball league. I feel like I really embraced this one after such a busy and hectic time that led to some neglect.
Winter goals 2024
Keep reading
Let’s keep it up! I’m not gonna lie, I hated seeing my book list go from 53 to 0 overnight. It’s somewhat demoralizing, I think. So I think it’s fair to believe that I can get the list going, and get a nice jump-start on my annual reading goal.
Go to barre class
Thanks to my 100 barre class side quest, I have some work to do! In order to reach this one, or get anywhere close, I’ll need to average about 3 classes per week. I’m hoping that this one sticks.
Daily movement
Additionally, I think it’s just wise to keep my body moving. I’d love if that meant pickleball! Or, maybe longer walks with Wally. I’d even consider jumping on the treadmill. I think there’s space here for interpretation.
Be financially conscious
This winter, I want to be a savvy saver and a picky consumer. I hope Chad and I will meet, discuss our financial goals, and stick to them. For the winter, that will likely mean reducing our DoorDash footprint, me limiting my post-class coffee treats, avoiding Amazon, and adding money to our savings account routinely.
Wearing clothes thoughtfully
As someone who works from home and notoriously lives in sweatpants, it can be hard to make the jump into “outside” clothes. I tend to re-wear a lot of stuff, especially when it’s comfortable or easy. This can lead to neglecting much of my closet, which seems wasteful. I’d like to really wear my clothes more thoughtfully this season, to make the most out of what I have.
Do things quickly
Sometimes I’m a procrastinator. I think part of it is my ADHD, and another has to do with a strong avoidance attachment style—especially difficult when things appear to be difficult. I’d rather “save it for later” than attack it right away. Though I think this is part of who I am, I do think this is also something I can try to improve in small doses. It’s something I want to work on this winter.
Drink more water
As a general rule, I don’t think it could hurt to drink more water. I feel like I’ve fallen off lately, and it’s something that’s pretty easy to get back into. Cheers to that!
Finish one house project
Okay, leaving it somewhat open for interpretation with this one. I’d love to finish one home project, whether it’s furnishing our basement, finishing our loft space, painting the white spot above the fridge, updating a hallway, or re-decorating our guest room.
Onward!
Wish me luck for my pursuit of my latest seasonal goals!
