Chad and I had a photoshoot at Rush Mor Records, located in Bay View, Wisconsin, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
When we showed up, Haley of Haley Eaglestar Photography asked us what our favorite love songs were. Naturally, I froze: right there, standing in the middle of a record store with hundreds of albums surrounding me, nothing came to mind. It was as if I’d never heard a single song in my life.

I’ve thought about this a lot since then. Beyond the replay loop of a semi-mortifying moment, I’ve also been trying to remember the songs that have played tandem to our love story.
Is my favorite love song “Trouble” by Never Shout Never, which was on repeat in 2011 as I waded through my newfound obsession with a boy? Was it Lil Jon’s “Get Low,” which was the anthem of every school dance we shared together? Maybe it was Taylor Swift’s Red album, that I cried over when Chad left to go to college four hours away. Or maybe the James Taylor, the Johnny Cash, the John Denver that played from his iPod. We chose “True Companion” by Marc Cohen as our wedding song. But last week, I could’ve sworn that life doesn’t get better than Noah Kahan in the air and sun in the sky and Chad’s hand in mine.

I might have a shitty memory, but it’s also just SO full. Of us, of constant movement and joy and music tied to every kind of memory you can imagine.
I don’t have a favorite love song. I simply can’t choose. But even in the quiet and silence and awkward pauses scrambling for an answer, I’ll love ya forever, Chad. Happy (belated) Valentine’s Day.

Beautifully stated….my wife bought me a beautiful piece of furniture with a turntable embedded in it – she knows I’ve carried around 150+ albums since I was a teenager…so fun to listen to some of that music with her!
What a thoughtful gift! I love that she considered your love of music, especially to share in it together. Thank you for reading!
Swoon worthy music – hard to pick just one! 💖
Love a good soundtrack! Thank you so much for reading. 💖
Yeah, lyrics in songs thought us a lot of things about life. Sometimes they challenge our thoughts as well. As a writer, I like analysing songs. And I also make songs my inspirations.
Very true! Thank you for reading and commenting.
I suppose the question forced introspection. Caused you to dig deep and for all the right reasons the answer became tricky. Like you that question would have numerous answers for varying reasons. Reading your post I like all the answers you gave. The photo shoot pics adds nicely to the post.
Absolutely it did – sometimes the best questions catch us off-guard and require some extra thought. Thank you for reading and commenting!
