There’s something about preserved history that makes staying in a new place seem all the more special. Enter: The Leonard at Logan House, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
During our recent weekend visit to Grand Rapids, Chad and I stayed at a charming bed and breakfast, located in the city’s historic Heritage Hill neighborhood. We discovered it to be a thoughtful step back in time—where charm, hospitality, and comfort come together in a home that holds over a century of stories.
Thank you to The Leonard at Logan House for hosting us for an amazing stay!

A house with history
The Leonard at Logan House was built in 1914 and preserved to maintain the history and character of a bygone era.
The house was originally constructed for Harry C. Leonard, a businessman who ran the Leonard Refrigerator Company. His father’s revolutionary refrigerator design—the Leonard Cleanable Refrigerator, which incorporated a vinyl lining—helped to generate their fortune. Harry C. Leonard eventually became the president of H. Leonard & Sons; when the company dissolved in 1952, it was the oldest business in Grand Rapids at 108 years old.
Today, The Leonard at Logan House carries the same elegance and style, with updated finishes.

The home has stately rooms, dark wood trim, tall ceilings, original fireplaces, and leaded glass windows, showcasing a beautifully maintained example of early 20th century interior design. Highlights are the crown molding, 1920s Victrola machine (it works beautifully!), creaking staircases (an ode to its historic bones), and a gorgeous outdoor space—a beautiful patio, lavish garden, green grass, twinkling lights, and beautifully landscaped flower beds.
Many details work together, encouraging guests to slow down, pay attention, and savor their surroundings.
The Knight’s Quarters

Chad and I stayed in the Knight’s Quarters, located on the third floor. This room is simple and cozy, with the perfect amount of space to get comfortable. There are two twin beds, which were pushed together for us for a king experience.
The room also had a writing desk, built-in window seat, and access to a private bathroom just a few steps down the hall.
Location, location, location

One of the best amenities of The Leonard at Logan is its location. It’s situated within the beautiful and bustling Heritage Hill neighborhood. In addition to the charming cobblestone roads (swoon!) and range of gorgeous homes (Victorians, colonial revival, mid-century modern mansions), the house is also within walking distance to a bustling area.
Wealthy Street is a short walk away—a vibrant commercial district home to coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques, and bars. It’s easy to explore and enjoy, and we definitely did!
We noticed that the bed and breakfast was nicely situated overall. It didn’t take long to get to any area of Grand Rapids, where we got to explore a range of activities, from botanical gardens to brewery tours. For us, this was a huge perk of our stay.
Beyond a bed

As with any bed and breakfast, The Leonard at Logan House offers a complimentary homecooked meal in the morning. Around 9 a.m., we were treated to a delicious spread—pastries, potatoes, bacon and sausage, frittata, fruit, eggs, and more—cooked fresh by our host.
Guests also have access to a 24/7 “snack porch” and drink bar, comfortable shared spaces with books and board games, and a peaceful outdoor patio. Parking was easy, Wi-Fi was free and available, and there was keyless entry to make entry and exit smooth.
The Leonard at Logan House experience
My favorite element of our stay was a deep sense of connection to Grand Rapids and its history. This allowed for a fully immersive introduction to the area.
The Leonard on Logan House was a perfect home base for exploring the city. We connected with local history, while enjoying the slower pace that comes with staying somewhere that feels more like a home than a hotel.
