Shopping in the Fox Cities

The Fox Cities, a group of communities located along the Fox River in east-central Wisconsin, is a destination of vibrant cities, towns, and villages alongside beautiful outdoor spaces.

We went to the Fox Cities with one goal in mind: to do some fall shopping at stores local to the area. We focused our efforts on the cities of Neenah and Appleton, and they delivered! Fox Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau hosted Chad and I for a weekend of fun, and we made the most of our first-ever visit to the area.

For anyone who loves to shop local, discover boutique finds, and wander in and out of charming storefronts, the Fox Cities has plenty to offer.

Here’s a guide to shopping in the Fox Cities, following an itinerary that blends Hallmark-level charm with big variety.

Shopping in Neenah

Neenah is located on the banks of Lake Winnebago, Little Lake Butte de Morts, and the Fox River (nearby Oshkosh!), with a population of about 27,000. The city has a “hometown” feel, especially in its downtown, where there are several incredible shops and boutiques lining both sides of Wisconsin Ave.

Red Door Mercantile

We started our shopping excursion with a stop at Red Door Mercantile, a gift and souvenir shop with a healthy mix of Wisconsin products, games, farmhouse, cabin-style, and seasonal decor, plus local artisan goods.

The Revival

The Revival is a trendy and fun boutique worth visiting! They offer a range of chic clothing, jewelry, accessories, and gifts. They also have a store location in Waupaca, and shopping available online. The vibe was incredibly cool, the service was friendly, and we were even greeted by Susan the pup at the door.

I walked away with earrings, a handkerchief, and a gorgeous pair of pants. I’ll be back, for sure!

Acre Vintage

For fashion lovers, Acre Vintage offers a carefully curated collection of clothing and accessories from decades past. There was a great range of retro chic items, in a fun upstairs space.

Shopping in Appleton

Appleton, about 15 minutes away, has a vibrant and bustling downtown full of its own flavor of restaurants, bars, and stores to peruse. There was an eclectic mix of shops, ranging from second hand to boutiques, all worth checking out.

Beatnik Betty’s

Beatnik Betty’s is the go-to for quirky and upscale vintage-inspired fashion and accessories. There’s a western flair throughout, with bold prints, playful styles, and designer items.

Mall culture is alive and well at the Fox River Mall! As the largest shopping destination in the region, this Appleton mall (a short drive from downtown) is home to a ton of big name retailers, department stores, and a variety of dining options.

Where to stay

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay during your Fox Cities shopping trip, I highly recommend the Doubletree in downtown Neenah. This hotel is perfectly situated, less than a 3-minute walk from Wisconsin Avenue’s stores, coffee shops, and restaurants.
