At the beginning of August, Chad and I were lucky to stay at a hotel that offered us easy city access in a upscale, modern package. Canopy Minneapolis, a Hilton hotel, was a gorgeous option located in the heart of the Mill District.
Canopy was one of our all-time favorite stays. This was definitely thanks to its high-end design. We loved the wood beams, exposed brick, and artistic features within the shared spaces.
Thank you to Canopy Minneapolis for hosting us for an amazing stay! Here’s what to expect when choosing Canopy, in downtown MPLS.
Staying at Canopy Minneapolis
The vibe

Canopy is a 4-star hotel chain by Hilton. They’re known to offer an elevated boutique hotel experience. They have a reputation for a sophisticated design, with bespoke refreshments, in a setting that’s inspired by the local culture.
Canopy Minneapolis fits the bill, striking a sweet spot between luxury and neighborhood cool. The hotel is housed in a brick building that fits the industrial vibes of the Mill District. It plays into its historic roots, while also emphasizing a sleek and refined space to unwind.
In addition to a stunning design of both shared and private spaces, other amenities include a great location, a spa, restaurant, bar, fitness center, parking garage, meeting rooms, and bikes available for use.
Thoughtful interior design

Hands-down, my favorite part of Canopy Minneapolis was its gorgeous interior design. The hotel is located within a beautifully restored building from the early 1900s, and each room embraces its industrial past with subtle touches.
There are Scandinavian-inspired textures that echo throughout, such as woven textiles, wood accents, and quilting motifs.
The atrium sculpture is a standout feature, as well as other locally crafted artworks that work together to create a boutique, gallery-like experience in each and every room. It’s interactive, too: you can flip through books and books of art and novel topics, cozy up in stylish lobby chairs, or inspect sculptures up close.
Canopy rooms: elevated comfort

Canopy Minneapolis offers several room types, dazzling with sleek modern features; king or double queen, rooms with lofted ceilings, accessible accommodations, or suites are available.
Rooms are stylish and comfortable, with the signature exposed brick walls, Scandinavian-inspired decor, and intentional, luxury touches. Note: the plush towels are fantastic.
Our room was a double queen with an atrium view, which we really enjoyed: the beds were cozy, the furnishings were stylish, and the bathroom was spacious and sleek. We looked forward to unwinding and relaxing here each night, and couldn’t get enough of the atrium artwork outside our window.
Umbra restaurant and bar

Another perk of a Canopy stay is Umbra—a restaurant and bar that blends the property’s elevated style with comfort and delicious dishes. They have a buffet breakfast and French-American dishes for dinner, focusing on locally inspired ingredients.
Guests tend to love the ambiance, food, and convenience of Umbra, especially on weekends when dueling pianos make an appearance.
Canopy bikes

True to the Canopy brand’s ethos, the hotel offers complimentary bikes. These signature orange townies are the perfect invitation to explore Minneapolis on your own terms.
In addition to nearby attractions to explore, there are parks and riverfront trails just minutes away. It’s an incredible perk to be able to check out MPLS’ parks, art, and river views at your own pace.
Location, location, location
When choosing a hotel, location is one of our prime considerations, always.
Canopy delivers with their location. It’s an easy three-minute walk from the U.S. Bank Stadium (if you’re a Vikings fan, this is for you), and within easy reach to the Guthrie Theater, Stone Arch Bridge, Mill City Museum, plus so many coffee shops, restaurants, and bars.
It makes for a great home base to do additional exploring around the Twin Cities. It’s accessible by light rail (the METRO Green Line links downtown Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota, and downtown St. Paul) or by car.
Final thoughts

Canopy by Hilton Minneapolis feels like the elevated home base every traveler dreams of. It’s elegant yet inviting, historic yet refreshed, centrally located yet peaceful.
Whether you’re sipping a cocktail at Umbra, unwinding in a design-forward room, or biking along the river, this hotel combines thoughtful luxury with neighborhood energy.
Canopy offers a boutique and refined Minneapolis stay. Highly recommend!
