During our recent trip to the Twin Cities, we needed a homebase for our adventures. Enter: Aloft Minneapolis.
Aloft Minneapolis is a fun, quirky, and energetic loft-inspired hotel, located in the heart of downtown MPLS’ Mill District. Matched in both location and aesthetic, Aloft was a perfect option for us to balance our explorations and on-site fun. This place had a personality all its own.
Thank you to Aloft Minneapolis for hosting us for an amazing stay! Here’s what to expect when choosing Aloft for your hotel in downtown Minneapolis.
Staying at Aloft Minneapolis
The vibe

Aloft is a 3-star hotel chain by Marriott that caters to a young and fresh demographic and tend to be located close to city centers. The vibe is playful and fun, with modern design touches, lobbies full of tabletop games, vibrant colors, and late night food and drink options. It was a blend of affordable and nice, and we were impressed with what the hotel had to offer.
For example, we loved Aloft’s lounge area, where we enjoyed grab-and-go food, a game of pool, and drinks from the WXYZ Bar.
These elements keep the energy high, and makes the space a great landing spot either before or after a night out.
Aloft Minneapolis offers several room types, each blending modern design with practical comfort; king or double queen, urban view or corner room options.
Location, location, location

The top feature of Aloft Minneapolis is it’s prime location downtown. The hotel is perfectly situated within the Mill District, and is walking distance to the U.S. Bank Stadium, Guthrie Theater, and Mill Runs Park.
It’s also within easy reach to other iconic landmarks, like The Armory, Target field, Orpheum Theatre, Hennepin Theatre Trust, Target Center, University of Minnesota, and the Mill City Museum.
For us, it was a great homebase while we explored other favorites throughout the Twin Cities. Some of these spots included:
- Minneapolis Sculpture Garden – home to the famous Spoonbridge and Cherry
- Minnehaha Falls
- Como Park Zoo and Conservatory
- Mall of America
- Cascade Bay Water Park
Aloft is easily situated within the city, nearby a light rail and within half an hour to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport.
Whether a Twin Cities itinerary leans toward arts and culture, outdoor scenery, sports, or nightlife, Aloft’s location makes it easy to experience the very best of downtown Minneapolis.
Amenities

We noticed that Aloft doesn’t skim on the extras. Some of my favorites included:
- A heated indoor pool, hot tub, gym, and grab-and-go food pantry with late night hours
- The W XYZ Bar – home to drinks, pub-style bites, and a cozy lounge setting
- Free WIFI, a mini-fridge, and comfortable beds
Our lobby also came stocked with fun games to peruse and enjoy. It’s a social space, with access to a pool table, board games, giant Connect Four, an incredible outdoor courtyard, and more. We loved unwinding and chatting while rolling the dice.

Chad and I thought it was a fantastic spot to rest and recover from our around-town adventures, while still indulging some on-site fun for ourselves.
