I just got back from San Diego, California—my first vacation in a couple years. We had fun. During our six days away, we ate, beached, drank, walked, explored, zoo’d, sunned, and smiled. And we kicked it off by a stay on Solana Beach.
We crammed as much as possible into our trip, acknowledging that San Diego has so much to do and anything less than a full itinerary would leave us wondering if we did enough. Well, we did.
This wasn’t a relaxing vacation. (In fact, I’m exhausted. You know the feeling of wanting a vacation from your vacation? That’s where I’m at.) However, it was a fulfilling one—an adventure I’ll remember and appreciate and cherish forever.
And before I can dive into everything we saw and did and recommend, I need a little time to refocus and recalibrate. So, in lieu of a lengthy and wordy post, here are some photos I took during our trip, from Solana Beach. Soon, I’ll post others, from La Jolla and Del Mar, Balboa Park, Little Italy, Seaport Village, and the Gaslamp Quarter.
Summer in Solana Beach
We spent a little under half of our trip at Solana Beach, located about half an hour north from downtown San Diego. We stayed in an Airbnb pool house just one residential street away from the delightful Fletcher Cove, where we sat, swam, relaxed, and enjoyed the salty sea as much as possible.
We also delighted in local beer and food and celebrated Chad’s 27th birthday on our first night in town. We loved the smaller beach town feel, with less touristy vibes and more authentic, seaside living. It’d be a dream come true to lay roots here.
