A Kim Possible Halloween

For the first time in quite a while, I got really into Halloween this year. Since I have an aversion to all things scary, this typically happens when I find a costume idea that I am invested in.

Some of my favorites over the years have included Garth (part of the Wayne’s World duo with my best friend), Barbie flight attendant, a troll doll, the Little Mermaid, June Carter (to Chad’s Johnny), the Pam to Chad’s Jim, and Sandy from Grease (Chad was a great-looking Danny).

Flight Attendant Barbie (2011)
Little Mermaid (2013)
Troll Dolls (2010)
Jim and Pam (2016)
Danny and Sandy (2017)
June Carter and Johnny Cash (2015)

I wasn’t expecting to care very much about Halloween this year, but two things changed things:

  1. We were invited to a costume party (yay, adult friends in Glenwood Springs!)
  2. I was inspired by my blogger buddy Rosie (over at rosieculture.com – check her out!), who told me that my gifted clothes from Femme Luxe were giving her some Kim Possible vibes. Right then and there, I knew what had to be done. Thank you, Rosie!

This year, Chad and I went as the dynamic duo Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable.

Who is Kim Possible?

For those who didn’t tune into early 2000’s Disney Channel, Kim Possible was a defining cartoon of my generation. This show followed the adventures of a teenager (with red hair, might I add—a personal hero to look up to) who balances her duties as a global crime fighter and teenager. She goes on her incredibly bad ass adventures with her accident-prone, goofy, and extremely lovable best friend (later turned love interest, I believe) Ron Stoppable.

Kim Possible is voiced by Christy Carlson Romano, Ron is Will Friedle, and the super-genius tween tech guy Wade is played by Tahj Mowry. Other regular characters include Ron’s naked mole rat Rufus (much more adorable as an animation than in real life), the blue-skinned nemesis Dr. Drakken, and the very cool hench-woman Shego.

In the name of research, I rewatched as much of the show as possible. Here’s the sitch: it still stands up. It’s very funny, even as an adult. It makes sense that Kim Possible has a 7.2 rating on IMDB.

The Kim Possible Look

Luckily for me, Kim Possible has a very signature look that’s also extremely easy to recreate. She has a timeless black crop top, green cargo pants, a utility belt, and her red mane.

I got the long-sleeved crop top on Amazon ($15), utility belt on Amazon ($16), pants from Femme Luxe ($22), and repurposed some boots from my closet.

Makeup-wise, Kim’s got cartoon black eyebrows, black-lined eyes, and a red-brown upper lip that I tried to recreate. I also opted for several layers of full-coverage light foundation to cover up my freckles.

I got into the details as well: I transformed my phone into the “Kimmunicator” by changing my lock screen and adding an old blue case, changed my text tone to the classic beep, and made my ringtone the show’s theme song.

The Ron Stoppable Look

For Chad, he was able to get away with only purchasing one item. He had a black shirt and cargo pants, so we bought him a belt from Amazon ($12)

The Final Result

We were a hit at the party, given that Kim Possible is somewhat of a millennial icon. Most importantly, though, we had fun. I will always have a soft spot for this character, and her timeless moral that girls can get shit done, and change the world.

  1. What a great costume! I loved all of them, but especially Jim and Pam! Jenna Fischer is going to be on The Kelly Clarkson Show soon…looking forward to hearing her talk about the office!

    1. Thank you! The Office will likely always be my top favorite show. So, so good. I recently started rewatching it as a pick-me-up, and it’s been the right choice. I’ll have to check into that—I also know that Jenna Fischer and Angela Kingsley have started an Office recapping podcast! It sounds amazing.

      1. Jenna and Angela were on The Kelly Clarkson Show to promote that podcast…they were a lot of fun and Angela in particular was really funny and upbeat – the exact opposite of her role!

  2. I LOVE THE EFFORT!! Absolutely amazing! Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year. Sadly I find less and less make the effort to embrace it. Xx

  3. You guys look great! And I also love your Danny and Sandy outfit. I was obsessed with Kim Possible when I was younger (mostly because my name’s also Kim).
